A Tale of Two Cities: Comparing Indoor Air Quality in East Coast / West Coast Homes

There are many differences between living on the East and West coasts of the US, did you know that indoor air pollutants are also very different?

The Honeywell Air Purification team along with Environmental Health & Engineering, Inc. (Eh&E), conducted a test to see if the pollutants captured in the filters of the Honeywell AirGenius differed between a family living in New York and one living in Los Angles.

•Environmental Health & Engineering, Inc. (EH&E) coordinated the sampling of Honeywell AirGenius Air Cleaners used in the two–home pilot study. EH&E staff collected samples of pollutants from the air cleaner filters for preliminary analysis at third party independent laboratories. Pollutants included: mold spores, metals, black carbon, allergens and dust contaminants. Both homes in the pilot study met the same criteria of the number of people living in the home, one pet (cat or dog), square footage minimums and maximums, nonsmoking home, among other items. Appropriate quality control samples were also collected.

•The finalized list of pollutants found included: fungal spores, metals, black carbon, allergens and dust contaminants.
•In NYC  Black Carbon & Heavy metals had stronger presence
•In LA Pollen & Skin particles had stronger presence
