How Humidifier Technologies Differ.

Filtered Cool Moisture Humidifiers. (Evaporative)

Cool, filtered invisible moisture.

    • A fan blows moisture off a saturated wicking filter helping it evaporate into the air more quickly.
    • The moisture output is invisible, since the water is evaporating off the filter.
    • It is not possible to over-humidify because the air will not absorb any more moisture than it can hold.
    • This type of humidifier requires a replaceable wicking filter to operate. The filter also captures minerals from the water, helping to prevent white dust in hard water areas.

Filter-Free Cool Mist Humidifiers.

Cool, filter-free visible mist.

    • A nebulizer vibrates at ultrasonic frequency, breaking water droplets into fine visible mist that you can see.
    • This type of humidifier is filter free, but some will accept an optional demineralization cartridge that helps to remove minerals from the water, reducing white dust in hard water areas.
    • Ultrasonic humidifiers are generally very quiet but you may hear the sound of water dripping as it falls into the reservoir.

Warm Mist Humidifiers

Warm, filter-free visible mist.

    • Water is boiled in a heating chamber and is then released into the air as warm, visible mist.
    • This type of humidifier produces 99% bacteria free mist, since the water is boiled first.
    • Some warm mist humidifiers come with a medicine cup so liquid inhalants can be used for added relief.
    • You may notice the temperature in the room rises slightly since the mist is warm.
