Air Genius 6 FAQs

How to Replace the Pre-Filter & Clean the Washable Filters

The Air Genius 6 uses the Odor & VOC Reducing K Pre-Filter. The pre-filter helps capture large airborne particles that enter the rear grille and also helps trap common household odors and VOCs (gases). This pre-filter is NOT WASHABLE and will lose its effectiveness over time. It should be replaced every 3 months when you clean the ifD® Filter for optimum odor and VOC reduction performance. The Permanent, Washable ifD® Filter should be cleaned every 3 months.

To remove and replace the pre-filter, follow these instructions:

  1. Remove the rear grille and gently untuck the filter from the plastic retention clips and dispose of used pre-filter.
  2. Remove the plastic bag and place a fresh Odor & VOC Reducing K Pre-Filter on the rear grille and tuck the edges under the plastic clips to hold securely in place.
  3. Return the rear grille to the air purifier.
  4. To clean the washable filter, follow these instructions:

Turn the power off but DO NOT unplug the air purifier. After removing the ifD® Filter from the air purifier, follow the steps below to clean the ifD® Filter.

  1. Rinse the filter with clean tap water.
  2. If the filter still appears dirty, proceed to “Washing,” otherwise proceed to “Drying.”

Washing:

  1. Remove the ifD® Filter from the unit.
  2. Fill a sink with lukewarm water and add a few drops of mild dish soap.
  3. Gently swish the filter in the soap solution to clean.
  4. Soak the filter for 2-3 minutes. DO NOT leave the filter in the water for more than 5 minutes.
  5. Rinse the filter with clean tap water. Proceed to “Drying”.
  6. Note that the filter may still be discolored even after washing. This is acceptable and will not affect performance.

Drying:

  1. Shake the filter to remove any excess water.
  2. Place the filter with the honeycomb side down on a plush towel.
Allow the ifD® Filter to dry for a few hours or overnight.
  3. When the ifD® Filter is completely dry, place it back into the air purifier. The CHECK FILTERS light will automatically shut off and the filter timer will be reset.

My Air Purifier is starting to make noise and the air output is less. What’s wrong?

The filters may be dirty. High amounts of particles can block the pores in the filter and stop the air from moving through it. The filter and pre-filter should be cleaned.

How long should I run my air purifier?

It is recommended that you run your air purifier when you are at home for air cleaning. The unit will be more effective when doors and windows are closed. If desired or conditions warrant, you may run your air purifier 24 hours a day.

Can I wash the Odor & VOC reducing K Pre-Filter?

No. Washing the Odor Reducing K Pre-Filter will destroy it. You can, however, wash the ifD® Filter.

How do I reset the Filter Status monitor?

After you have removed and cleaned the ifD® Filter and let it dry completely, return it to the unit. After the ifD® Filter is properly seated in the housing the CHECK FILTERS light will shut off. The Filter Status Monitor automatically resets upon filter insertion. You should replace the Odor & VOC Reducing K
Pre-Filter at the same time to to help ensure optimum performance of your air purifier.

Why did my Air Purifier suddenly turn on a higher (or lower) setting?

Is the air purifier set to VOC Mode, or Pollen Auto-Set mode from the App? If it is, Pollen levels in your zip code may be high or the Air Genius 6 may have sensed a higher level of VOCs in the room and adjusted the cleaning level accordingly.

Air Genius 3/4/5 FAQs

How to Clean the Filters

A Washable Pre-Filter came installed in your Air Genius 3, 4 or 5 air purifier and removes larger particles from the air that passes through the filter. You may use this washable pre-filter, or you have the choice to use the optional Odor & VOC Reducing K Pre-Filter that is packed in a bag that came with the air purifier. In addition to capturing larger particles, the K Pre-Filter will also trap common household odors and gases. If you choose to use the K Pre-Filter, you must remove the installed washable pre-filter then insert the K Pre-Filter.

Note: The K Pre-Filter cannot be washed and should be replaced every 3 months for optimum performance.

NOTE: Please only use one pre-filter in your air purifier at a time. You will need to choose whether you want to use the Permanent, Washable Pre-Filter or the replaceable Odor & VOC Reducing K Pre-Filter. Both are included with your air purifier at the time of purchase.

My Filter Status Bar (Model HFD320 series only) / Check Filters light has not come on but when I checked my filter, it was really dirty.

In conditions where smoke, pets or air with a lot of particles are present it is possible that the filter could be dirty sooner than indicated on the indicator. The filter life indicator on your unit runs on a timer and if there are more particles in your air than in an average home, your filter could need cleaning sooner than indicated on the display. The indicator is intended to be used as a guideline and individual environmental conditions will vary.

My unit will not turn on.

You must first remove the washable porous foam pre-filter that came in your air purifier and replace it with the K Pre-Filter.
