How To Clean

For cool moisture humidifiers, periodic cleaning will help them perform at their best. It is also important to replace the wicking filter every 30-60 days, depending on water quality and usage.

To clean the humidifier:

  1. Turn off and unplug the humidifier.
  2. Empty water from the tank and base of the unit.
  3. Remove wicking filter.
  4. Add vinegar to water tank, replace tank cap and place on base so vinegar drains into the reservoir.
  5. Soak for 20 minutes. Use vinegar to wipe all interior surfaces and inside of tank with a soft cloth.
  6. Empty vinegar and rinse until the smell of vinegar is gone.
  7. Replace wicking filter with a new Genuine Honeywell Replacement Filter.

Filter FAQs

How does my filter work?

Water from the tank of your humidifier drains into the reservoir, where the wicking filter absorbs the water. A fan pulls dry air from the room through the saturated filter, helping it evaporate into the air more quickly. This creates invisible moisture output and prevents over humidification because the humidifier cannot add more moisture to the room than the air can hold. The filter captures minerals in the water to help reduce white dust and helps prevent the migration of mold, algae and bacteria. In areas with hard water, the filter may become clogged with minerals more quickly and need to be changed more frequently. Be sure to use only genuine Honeywell Replacement Filters which are Protec® antimicrobially treated.

When should I replace my filter?

It is recommended you change your Wicking Filter every 30-60 days depending on water quality and usage. If you have hard water, you may need to replace your filter more frequently. Change your filter if you notice:

  • The filter is hard and crusty
  • The filter starts to give off an odor
  • Moisture output has decreased

How do I care for my filter?

To prolong the life of your wicking filter, turn it over each time you fill the Water Tank. This will keep the top of the Filter from drying out and will help the Filter to age more evenly. If you notice the filter getting hard, you may soak it in cool water to loosen mineral buildup. This will temporarily improve performance of the wicking filter until a replacement filter can be purchased. Never clean with vinegar or bleach or any other solution; doing so can damage the filter.
