Here are some helpful tips for cleaning your humidifier. The mist from your humidifier is only as clean as the water in the tank!
Empty your humidifier daily and refill with fresh water.
Use undiluted white vinegar to remove scale (mineral buildup). Then, if desired, use a solution of 1 teaspoon bleach to 1 gallon of water to disinfect your humidifier.
End of season
When not using for more than a week, or at the end of the season, descale and disinfect your humidifier (as outlined in 'Weekly' above) before storing. Never store humidifier with a used filter or other accessories.
Other cleaning tips
- Consider using a humidifier cleaning ball (pictured right) to keep your humidifier cleaner longer between cleanings.
- If you have hard water, be sure to check your filter regularly (for evaporative humidifiers) for mineral build up that may reduce output. Filter-free cool mist (Ultrasonic) and warm mist humidifiers should be cleaned regularly to reduce mineral build up on the nebulizer or heating element.
- Always follow the manufacturer's instructions for regular cleaning.
